HOW TO

Reassign shortcut keys to display the Tangent Curve dialog box in ArcGIS 9.2 and 9.3

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

The CTRL+T keyboard shortcut is no longer linked to the Tangent Curve editing command. In ArcGIS 9.2 and 9.3, use CTRL+T at the application level to open the attribute table of the selected layer in the Table of Contents.

Procedure

Reassigning the keyboard shortcut

1. Click the Tools menu and click Customize.
2. Click the Keyboard button.
3. Click the Editor category.
4. Click the Tangent Curve command.
5. Click in the Press new shortcut key text box and press the keys on the keyboard to be used for a shortcut.

For example, for Ctrl + T, do not type Ctrl. Press the Ctrl key and the T key at the same time. If those keys are assigned to another command, the command name appears below.

6. In the Save in combo box, click the dropdown arrow and select the template in which the shortcut will be saved.
7. Click Assign if the keys aren't currently assigned to another command. The new shortcut appears in the Current Key/s list.

If the shortcut key you typed for the selected command is currently assigned to a different command and you press the Assign button, the original command/key assignment is overridden. When using that shortcut key, the command is executed instead of the command to which this shortcut was previously assigned.

8. Click Close on the Customize Keyboard dialog box.
9. Click Close on the Customize dialog box.

All the shortcut keys that are saved in the document overrides the shortcut keys in the base templates and the Normal template.
The list of commands can be filtered by entering a search string in the 'Show commands containing:' edit box. The search is case insensitive and only commands with matching caption are listed. The category lists changes based on the matching commands.

Note:
The Macros, Menus, New Menu, and UIControls categories are always listed. To cancel filtering, leave the box empty and delete any blank space.

Resetting default shortcut keys

1. Click the Tools menu and click Customize.
2. Click Keyboard.
3. In the Save in combo box, click the drop-down arrow and select the template with the shortcut keys being reset.
4. Click Reset All.
5. Click Yes when asked to reset the shortcuts.
6. Click Close in the Customize Keyboard dialog box.
7. Click Close in the Customize dialog box.
