HOW TO

Provide a downloadable dataset in local coordinate system in ArcGIS Hub

Summary

In ArcGIS Hub, shared data inherits the spatial reference from the hosted feature service or web map in ArcGIS Online. So, the data are displayed and exported in Web Mercator instead of a local coordinate system. Providing downloads in a local coordinate system preserves spatial accuracy and creates a ready-to-use dataset.

Procedure

Publish the projected layer to ArcGIS Online for use in Hub

  1. Configure the correct coordinate system in ArcGIS Pro.
  1. Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
  2. In the Contents pane, right-click Map and select Properties.
  3. In the Map Properties window, click the Coordinate Systems tab.
  4. Under XY Coordinate Systems Available, expand Projected Coordinate System and select the coordinate system. In this example, theĀ Kertau 1968 Johor Grid is selected. Click Apply > OK.
  5. Click the Analysis tab. In the Geoprocessing group, click Tools.
  6. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and select Project (Data Management Tools). Run the tool to project the layer to the local coordinate system.

The Project pane below shows the configurations with Kertau 1968 Johor Grid as the output coordinate system.

  1. Publish the feature layer to ArcGIS Online or overwrite the hosted feature layer.
  1. Ensure the local coordinate system is preserved in ArcGIS Online.
  1. Sign in to ArcGIS Online and navigate to Content > My content.
  2. On the My content tab, select the hosted feature layer to open the item page.
  3. On the item page, navigate to URL under the Details section and click View. Verify the Spatial Reference in the ArcGIS REST Services Directory.

  1. Allow the hosted feature service to be downloaded in Hub.
  1. Enable the Export data setting. Refer to ArcGIS Hub: Enable downloads for hosted services for instructions.
  2. On the Settings page, click View content > View Full Details.
  3. On the dataset details page, the View Map and Download options are available. Click Download to download the dataset. For Download Options, select the format. In this example, theĀ Shapefile format is downloaded.

Add the dataset as a new item in ArcGIS Online

  1. Prepare a zipped shapefile.
  1. Repeat Steps 1(a) through 1(f) from the previous workaround.
  2. In ArcGIS Pro, click Save Project > Close.
  3. Open File Explorer and locate the shapefile folder.
  4. Select all related shapefiles and compress them into a .zip file.
  1. Add the zipped shapefile to ArcGIS Online.
  1. Sign in to ArcGIS Online.
  2. Upload the .zip file. Refer to Steps 1 through 5 in ArcGIS Online: Publish a shapefile for instructions.
  3. Select Add <file name>.zip only.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the New item dialog box, for Title and Folder, specify the title and select the folder to save the item.
  6. Click Save.
  1. Download the shapefile dataset in Hub.
  1. Sign in to Hub.
  2. Click Content.
  3. Select the shapefile dataset to open the details page.
  4. On the dataset details page, only the Download option is available. Click Download to download the dataset.

Opening the downloaded dataset in ArcGIS Pro displays the local coordinate system, as shown in the Layer Properties dialog box below.
