ESRI recommends that you install ArcView in directories that are eight characters or less and do not use special characters such as, spaces or percent signs. However, some may find it necessary to install the software in such directories. The ArcView GIS 3.2a for Windows CD allows installation into these directories. NOTE: If your ArcView installation CD is not titled ArcView GIS 3.2a for Windows, contact the sales department or your customer service representative to obtain one.

Procedure

Start the ArcView installation program. When asked where you want to install ArcView, click Browse and type in the DOS convention for referencing pathnames. For example, the DOS convention for "c:\Program Files" would be "c:\Progra~1". For "d:\ArcView_server" the DOS convention would be "d:\ArcVie~1".

Note: If the directory does not exist, you must create the directory before beginning the installation.
