Procedure

1. Define the Label field for the layer.
   1. Right-click the layer in the Table of Contents.
   2. Select Properties.
   3. Select the Labels tab.
   4. Select a field name from the Label Field dropdown list.
   5. Click Apply and OK to close the Layer Properties dialog.
2. Select the Label tool.
   
3. Select the Choose a Style radio button.
4. Select the U.S. Route symbol.
5. Click on a feature in the Data View to label it.
