HOW TO

Fix ArcGIS GeoEvent Server input and output properties pane that does not load after the ArcGIS Enterprise upgrade from 11.5 to 12.1

Summary

After upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise from version 11.5 to 12.1, the ArcGIS GeoEvent Server properties pane for input and output connectors may fail to load. As a result, users are unable to view or configure connector properties and may be unable to create or configure new GeoEvent input or output connectors.

Cause

The issue can occur when existing GeoEvent Server components and folders from the previous installation remain on the machine after the upgrade. Residual GeoEvent Server files or configuration components can conflict with the ArcGIS GeoEvent Server 12.1 installation, preventing the connector properties pane from loading correctly.

Procedure

Perform a clean removal and reinstallation of ArcGIS GeoEvent Server.

  1. Back up the GeoEvent Server configuration XML file and store it in a separate location. This file is required to restore the GeoEvent configuration after the fresh installation.
    • Browse to Site > GeoEvent > Configuration Store and click Export Configuration.
    • Browse to Site > Settings and click Export.

Important consideration: If you deployed any custom components developed using the GeoEvent Server SDK, the associated *.jar files should be moved to a temporary folder location, outside the GeoEvent Server installation folder. Do this while GeoEvent Server is running and prior to executing the steps below.

    • Check the folder:  C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\GeoEvent\deploy
  1. Uninstall ArcGIS GeoEvent Server from the machine.
  2. After uninstalling, manually verify that all remaining GeoEvent-related folders are removed.
    • Program Files - Navigate to: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\
      • Delete the GeoEvent folder and any remaining contents.
    • ProgramData - Navigate to: C:\ProgramData\Esri\
      • Delete the following folders:
        • GeoEvent
        • GeoEvent-Gateway
  3. After confirming the GeoEvent-related folders have been removed, delete the Esri folder.

Ensure that all folders and residual files related to the previous ArcGIS GeoEvent Server installation have been removed before proceeding with the new installation.

  1. Install a fresh copy of ArcGIS GeoEvent Server 12.1.
  2. Use the previously saved configuration XML file to restore the GeoEvent Server configuration.
  3. If you deployed any custom components developed using the GeoEvent Server SDK that were moved in previous step, return the associated *.jar files to the deploy folder: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\GeoEvent\deploy

After performing the clean removal and fresh installation, the GeoEvent Server input and output properties pane loads correctly, allowing users to create and configure input and output connectors.
