HOW TO

Exit the Select tool in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: April 29, 2022

Summary

The Select tool on the Map ribbon tab is used to select one or more features on the map. Unlike the Measure tool or the Locate tool, which can be exited from by clicking the Close button on their respective panes, the Select tool does not have a clear-cut way of exiting the tool.

This article demonstrates the ways of exiting or getting out of selection mode when the Select tool is enabled.

Procedure

Use the Explore tool
On the Map ribbon tab, in the Navigate group, click Explore The Explore icon to return to the default navigation mode when a project in ArcGIS Pro is opened.

Use the Measure tool

  1. On the Map ribbon tab, in the Inquiry group, Click Measure The Measure icon.
  2. Click Close the measure tool The Close icon on the Measure Distance window to return to navigation mode.

Temporarily switch to navigation mode when in selection mode

Alternatively, when the Select tool is enabled, press and hold the C key on the keyboard to temporarily enter navigation mode. Releasing the C key returns back to selection mode. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Selection keyboard shortcuts for more information.
