Enable the Save and Discard buttons when editing non-versioned feature classes in an enterprise geodatabase with ArcGIS Pro

Summary

While editing non-versioned feature classes using ArcGIS Pro, the edits are automatically saved (committed) to the database as soon as they are made. This happens when ArcGIS Pro is using 'Multiple workspace editing mode'.

If you need explicit control over when edits are committed, enable a Single workspace edit session to use the Save and Discard buttons. This lets you review edits and either save them as a batch or discard them before they are written to the database, reducing the risk of unintentionally committing changes that are harder to roll back in non-versioned workflows. 

This article walks through the process of enabling the Save and Discard button while editing a non-versioned feature class from an enterprise geodatabase in ArcGIS Pro. 

Cause

The Save and Discard commands for non-versioned workspaces are available only during a 'Single workspace editing' session, as shown in the image below, which shows the commands available in each workspace. See: Enable or disable editing

The Save and Discard buttons are not available while editing non-versioned feature classes if ArcGIS Pro is using Multiple workspace editing mode.

Procedure

From the Project tab in ArcGIS Pro, click Options. Under the Session section, check the option to Enable and disable editing from the Edit tab, and select Single workspace edit session, as shown in the next image.
