Summary
Please note the following:
- Enabling Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) resets all active logins in ArcGIS Online and applications including ArcGIS Pro active sign-in, and users are forced to link their MFA from their respective smartphones through authenticator app on their respective platforms – iOS and Android.
- This activity must be executed with proper planning considering its login impact.
- In this case, the MFA must be disabled, an Administrator must disable it from the same option where it was enabled from security settings.
- It requires an administrator username to the ArcGIS Online Organization Account (with a valid subscription and at least two Creator user types).
The steps to enable MFA is described below.
Procedure
- Login with an Administrator username to the ArcGIS Online Organization Account (with a valid subscription and at least two Creator user types).
- Navigate to Organization > Settings > Security.
- Click Multifactor authentication in the right section
- Click the Enable multifactor authentication (MFA) option button. It requires designation of at least two administrators from the ArcGIS Online organization account.

- Click the Enforce MFA button. This enforces all users connected to ArcGIS Online account to re-login and configure their MFA using their smartphones.
- Once enforced, all logged-in users are notified to configure their MFA using their respective smartphones (iOS or Android).
- Download the respective authenticator app from iOS or Android.
- Scan the QR code to link the authenticator app with the ArcGIS Online Account.
