Display feature information using a mouse hover in ArcGIS Configurable Apps

Summary

When creating an interactive map using ArcGIS Configurable Apps such as Minimalist, Media Map, or Attachment Viewer, it is useful to allow users to hover over map features to display the feature information in a pop-up window, pop-up panel, or label without a mouse click. This article details the steps to display feature information using a mouse hover in the Minimalist, Media Map, and Attachment Viewer configurable app templates.

Procedure

In the Minimalist configurable app

Enable hover pop-ups in the Minimalist configurable app to display the feature information in a pop-up window or panel when hovering over a feature on the map.

1. Log in to ArcGIS Online, and create the Minimalist configurable app. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Create an app with Configurable Apps for more information.
2. In the Minimalist configurable app, on the side panel, click Full Setup.

Note:
By default, Express Setup is activated, and the side panel is collapsed.

3. When prompted, click Switch.
4. On the side panel, click Interactivity > Explore/Navigate.

Note:
Alternatively, click Search on the side panel, search for and click Enable hover pop-up.

5. Enable the Enable hover pop-up option to display pop-up content by hovering over map features without a mouse click.

6. Click Publish.

The image below shows the feature information displayed in the pop-up window on the map when hovering over the feature.

Note:
Alternatively, on the About tab on the side panel, enable the Pop-up panel option in the Legend, Details, and Pop-up Panels section to view feature information on the pop-up panel when hovering over map features.

In the Media Map configurable app

Enable hover pop-ups in the Media Map configurable app to display the feature information in a pop-up window when hovering over a feature on the map.

1. Log in to ArcGIS Online, and create the Media Map configurable app. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Create an app with Configurable Apps for more information.
2. In the Media Map configurable app, on the side panel, click Full Setup.

3. When prompted, click Switch.
4. On the side panel, click About > Location Details.
5. Enable the Enable hover pop-up option to display feature information in the pop-up window by hovering over map features without a mouse click.

6. Click Publish.

In the Attachment Viewer configurable app

Enable hover feature labels in the Attachment Viewer configurable app to display the feature information in a pop-up label when hovering over a feature attachment on the info panel.

1. Log in to ArcGIS Online, and create the Attachment Viewer configurable app. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Create an app with Configurable Apps for more information.
2. In the Attachment Viewer configurable app, on the side panel, click Full Setup.
3. When prompted, click Switch.
4. On the side panel, click Theme & Layout.
5. Under App layout, click the drop-down list, and select Map focused.

Note:
By default, the Attachment focused layout is selected, and the hover feature label is not supported.

6. On the side panel, click About > Location Details.
7. Enable the Feature label option to display feature information in a label on the map when hovering over an attachment on the info panel.

8. Click Publish.

Note:
Refer to Step 4 of this documentation to configure the pop-up title of the layer in Map Viewer to display the intended information in the hover feature label in the Attachment Viewer configurable app.
