Determine the corner coordinates of a map frame in an ArcGIS Pro layout

Summary

Coordinates are essential in mapping for accurate navigation and efficient data sharing, especially the map's corners: upper-left and right, and lower-left and right. Determining the latitude and longitude of these corners is important for georeferencing maps and aligning them to real-world coordinates. In ArcGIS Pro, the coordinates of a location in a layout's map frame can be determined using grids. However, as shown below, when the corner of the map is positioned between one of the grids, the map's corner frame coordinates are not displayed.

This article describes the workflow to determine the corner coordinates of a map frame in an ArcGIS Pro layout.

Procedure

1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
2. Click the Layout tab to activate the layout view. The tab color turns blue.
3. On the ribbon, click the Insert tab, and click Dynamic Text in the Graphics and Text group.
4. In the gallery, scroll down to the Map Frame - Coordinates group and refer to the Upper Left, Upper Right, Lower Left, and Lower Right dynamic text tags for the corner coordinates of the layout. In this example, the upper-left coordinate of the layout (Upper Left) is 170°44'27"W 14°18'46"S.
