Create a Military Analyst DTED catalog with raster file formats other than DTED

Summary

Instructions provided demonstrate how to create a Military Analyst DTED catalog with raster files in a format other than DTED.

Procedure

Before getting started ensure that Military Analyst is installed and that the extension is turned on: Tools > Extensions.

  1. Start ArcCatalog.
  2. Create a new personal geodatabase (pGDB).
  3. Right-click on the pGDB and select New > MA Catalog.
  4. Complete the following:
    A. Specify a name for the catalog.
    B. Leave the Input Folder option blank.
    C. Specify DTED catalog.
    D. Click OK.
  5. Right-click on the the newly created catalog and select load > load data.
  6. Select the images to be loaded as the Input Rasters. These rasters should all have the same projection.
  7. A. Specify the ouput catalog as the newly created catalog.
    B. Click OK to run the Raster to Geodatabase tool.
  8. Start ArcMap.
  9. Load the MA toolbar: View > Toolbars.
  10. A. Click on the 'Add Data' button (yellow diamond with black cross) and navigate to the MA catalog in the personal geodatabase.
    B. Add this layer to ArcMap.
  11. Start an edit session.
  12. Right-click on the catalog in the table of contents and open the attribute table.
  13. Right-click on the heading DTED_TYPE and select 'calculate values'.
  14. A. Enter "DTED 0" [include quotes; zero; not the letter 'o'] into the bottom window .
    B. Click OK to run the field calculator.
  15. Close the attribute table, stop the edit session.
  16. A. Remove the layer from the map. Click the 'Add MA Layer' button (green diamond with black cross) and navigate to the MA catalog in the personal geodatabase.
    B. Add this layer to ArcMap.
