HOW TO

Copy an ArcGIS Pro general settings configuration to another ArcGIS Pro installation

Last Published: May 31, 2023

Summary

In organizations, it is common practice to replace older machines with newer models to stay updated with technology advancement. When replacing a new machine, the ArcGIS Pro installation often follows the same configurations and settings as the previous machine. The settings can be replicated without manually setting ArcGIS Pro, that is, by copying the config file of the previous installation. The workflow provided in this article describes how to achieve this.

Procedure

  1. On the old machine, navigate to the following folder location:
C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Esri\ArcGISPro_StrongName_<unique_id>\<version>
Note:
The AppData folder is a hidden folder by default. Refer to Microsoft: View hidden files and folders in Windows for more information to view the folder.
  1. Copy the user.config file and save it to a transferable drive, for example, a flash drive.
  2. Paste the user.config file in the new machine, at the same folder location. Refer to What are the user.config files for in ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro? for more information regarding the user.config file.
