HOW TO

Configure a digitizer to work with ArcMap

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

Instructions provided describe how to set up a digitizer to work with ArcMap.

Procedure

  1. Install the 'wintab' driver for the digitizer. This usually comes on a CD with the digitizer or can be downloaded from the digitizer manufacturer's Web site.
  2. Configure the digitizing puck buttons using the software that is installed on the machine along with the wintab driver. One button needs to be configured as left click and another as left double-click.
  3. If the wintab driver for the digitizer was installed after ArcGIS was installed, register the digitizer.dll. To do this, open a Command Prompt window and type:

    Code:
    C:\>cd <ARCHOME>\bin
    C:\>regsvr32 digitizer.dll

    Note:
ARCHOME is the location where ArcGIS is installed. For ArcGIS 8.3 and earlier, this defaults to C:\ArcGIS\arcexe83; for ArcGIS 9.0, this defaults to C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\.
