Summary
Mosaic datasets are used to manage, display, analyze, serve, and share imagery and raster data. At times, it is necessary to change the coordinate system of a mosaic dataset for data compatibility, to align the existing data relative with another data, or for spatial analysis purposes. However, the coordinate system set for an existing mosaic dataset is not changeable. This article provides the workarounds to change the coordinate system of an existing mosaic dataset by creating a referenced mosaic dataset or a new mosaic dataset.
Procedure
Create a referenced mosaic dataset
- Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
- In the Catalog pane, on the Project tab, right-click the mosaic dataset and click Create Referenced Mosaic Dataset....
- In the Create Referenced Mosaic Dataset pane, on the Parameters tab, click the Select coordinate system icon
to choose the new coordinate system. - In the Coordinate System dialog box, select the coordinate system and click OK.
- In the Create Referenced Mosaic Dataset pane, click Run.
Create a new mosaic dataset
Create a new mosaic dataset and set the preferred coordinate system. A new mosaic dataset is created as an empty container in the geodatabase with some default properties to which raster data can be added. In this workflow, a new mosaic dataset is created, and the existing raster data is added after.
- Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
- In the Catalog pane, right-click the project file geodatabase and select New > Mosaic Dataset.
- In the Create Mosaic Dataset pane, on the Parameters tab, specify the name for Mosaic Dataset Name and click the Select coordinate system icon to choose the new coordinate system.
- In the Coordinate System dialog box, select the coordinate system and click OK.
- In the Create Mosaic Dataset pane, click Run.
- In the Catalog pane, right-click the newly created mosaic dataset and click Add Rasters....
- In the Add Rasters To Mosaic Dataset pane, for the Raster Type parameter, click the drop-down menu and select Table / Raster Catalog.
- Under Input Data, click the Browse icon to select the data as the input table, and select the existing mosaic dataset.
- Click Run.
