Change the alignment of a legend title in an ArcGIS Pro layout

Summary

In ArcGIS Pro, once a legend is added to a layout, the appearance of the legend can be customized. This article provides the workflow to change the alignment of a legend title in an ArcGIS Pro layout.

Procedure

  1. Ensure the legend title is displayed in the legend.
    1. In the layout view, in the Contents pane, right-click the legend layer, and select Properties.
    2. In the Format Legend pane, on the Options The icon symbolizing the Options tab. tab, click to expand Legend.
    3. Under Legend, for Title, check the Show box to display the legend title in the legend.
Note:
Modifying the Name section under General changes the name of the legend in the Contents pane. The changes made in this section is not displayed in the layout.
  1. Type a title for the legend in the box below the Show box. In this example, the legend title is Malaysia.
Display the legend title by expanding the Legend section in the Format Legend pane (Step 1b), check the Show box under the Title section (Step 1c), and type a name in the box below the check box (Step 1d).
  1. The title is displayed in the legend.
The legend title is now displayed in the layout. The text elements, the title and the legends appear aligned to the left.
  1. Change the alignment of the legend.
    1. In the Format Legend pane, click Text Symbol.
    2. On the General The icon symbolizing the General tab. The icon contains the imagery of a paintbrush and the letter A. tab, expand Position.
    3. For Horizontal alignment, select one of the options available. In this example, the Center alignment is selected.
    4. Click Apply to change the alignment of the legend.
Change the alignment of the text elements in a legend by selecting Text Symbol in the Format Legend pane (Step 2a), expend the Position section (Step 2b), and select one of the four options available for the Horizontal alignment section (Step 2c). Click Apply at the bottom-right corner of the pane to apply the modifications (Step 2d).
  1. The texts in the legend, including the title and the labels, are now aligned to the center.

  1. Alternatively, change the alignment of the legend title only while preserving the alignment of other text elements in the legend.
    1. In the Format Legend pane, click the down arrow next to Legend.
    2. In the drop-down menu, select Title.
In the Format Legend pane, customize the appearance of the legend title only by clicking the down-arrow located next to Legend (Step 3a), and select Title on the drop-down menu (Step 3b).
  1. On the General The icon symbolizing the General tab. The icon contains the imagery of a paintbrush and the letter A. tab, click to expand Position.
  2. For Horizontal alignment, select one of the options available. In this example, the Right alignment is selected.
  3. Click Apply to change the alignment of the legend title.
Change the alignment of the legend title by expanding the Position section in the Format Legend pane (Step 3c), select one of the four available options for the Horizontal alignment section (Step 3d). Click Apply at the bottom-right corner of the pane to apply the changes to the legend title (Step 3e).
  1. The title is now aligned to the right. The alignment of the labels is not changed.
The legend title is now aligned to the right, while the labels' alignment remains in the center.
