Change numbers in scientific notation to a custom numeric format string in ArcGIS Pro

Summary

In ArcGIS Pro, databases and geodatabases precisely store numbers containing up to 15 digits only, and numbers with more digits are rounded and stored in a format similar to scientific notation. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Numbers for more information.

This article describes the workflow to change numbers in scientific notation to a custom numeric format string.

Procedure

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, in the Contents pane, right-click the dataset layer. Click Design > Fields.
Open the Field view tab by right-clicking the dataset layer in the Contents pane, and in the menu, navigate to Design and click Fields.
  1. On the Fields view, double-click the corresponding cell for the field containing the numbers under Number Format, and click the ellipsis button. In this example, the numbers are in the SNCheck field.
To change the format of the field, open the Number Format window by double-clicking the cell under the Number Format column, and click the three dots or ellipsis button.
  1. In the Number Format window, configure the parameters.
    1. For Category, click the drop-down arrow The drop-down arrow icon button. Click to display the drop-down menu., and select Custom.
In the Number Format window, click the drop-down arrow in the Category section, scroll-down the drop-down menu, and click Custom.
  1. For Format string, type 000000000000000, a total of 15 zeroes.
  2. Click OK.
Type 15 zeroes, 000000000000000 in the Format string section. Click the OK button to close the Number Format window.
  1. On the ArcGIS Pro ribbon, on the Fields tab, click Save to save the modifications made to the table.
Save the changes made to the field by navigating to the Fields tab on the ArcGIS Pro ribbon, and click Save.

The numbers in the scientific notation format are changed to a custom numeric format string in the attribute table and pop-up.

After the modification, the scientific notation are now changed and displayed as numbers in the attribute table.
After the modification, the scientific notation is now changed and displayed as number in the pop-up.
