HOW TO

Apply a spatial filter while using the Query widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder

Summary

The Query widget allows retrieving information from a data source by running an attribute or spatial filter query. Inconsistent results may be received between the ArcGIS Web AppBuilder Query widget and the ArcGIS Experience Builder Query widget while using spatial filters.

Note:
The final version of ArcGIS Enterprise to include ArcGIS Web AppBuilder is ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5. ArcGIS Web AppBuilder as part of ArcGIS Enterprise is considered deprecated as of March 2023.

ArcGIS Web AppBuilder in ArcGIS Online will be retired in the second quarter of 2027 in phases, as described in: ArcGIS Web AppBuilder retirement

In Web AppBuilder when running a spatial filter to “Only return features that have a spatial relationship with features in another layer”, the query runs successfully and the results only display the query results for the intersecting features. However, when running a spatial filter and selecting “Selected features from data source” option and query in ArcGIS Experience Builder application, all the features present in the map are displayed.

The below image shows results after running the spatial filter in the Query widget of the Web AppBuilder application.

Procedure

For the spatial filter query to run successfully in ArcGIS Experience Builder application, enable the Select tool of the Map widget.

  1. Select the Map widget.
  2. In the Content tab, navigate to Tools sections and toggle on the Select tool and save the changes.
  3. Select the whole extent of the map and then run the spatial query. The query would now show the results of all the intersecting features only.

  • Alternatively, use the Select widget to select the data from the Map widget in the application.
