HOW TO

Apply pop-up configurations to another feature layer in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: September 27, 2024

Summary

In ArcGIS Pro, the pop-up for each feature layer is configured to display the feature's attributes and provide additional details. At times, it is necessary to apply the same pop-up configuration to multiple layers to present information in a similar structure and enable seamless comparison between layers. Although there is no tool to import only the pop-up settings of a feature layer, it is possible to replicate the pop-up configuration.

This article describes two workflows to apply pop-up configurations to another feature layer in ArcGIS Pro.

Procedure

Import the feature layer’s symbology to import the pop-up configuration

Pop-up configurations are integrated with other layer properties, such as symbology and label class, within a layer file (.lyrx). To import a pop-up configuration, save the feature layer with the desired pop-up configuration as a layer file, then import the layer’s settings into the target feature layer. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Save a layer file and ArcGIS Pro: Import symbology to a feature layer for further instructions.

When using the Apply Symbology From Layer tool, the layer’s symbology and label class are also transferred. To copy only the pop-up configuration, change the target layer’s symbology and label class to differentiate the layer from the symbology layer. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Apply symbology to feature layers and ArcGIS Pro: Use label classes for instructions.

Copy the HTML code or Arcade expressions of the pop-up elements

When working with similar layers or datasets, the pop-up configuration can be transferred to another feature layer by copying the HTML code or custom Arcade expressions of the pop-up elements.

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. Copy the HTML code or Arcade expressions of the pop-up elements.
    1. In the Contents pane, right-click the feature layer and select Configure Pop-ups.
    2. In the Configure Pop-ups pane, hover over the preferred pop-up element and click the Edit pop-up element button The Edit pop-up element icon.. In this example, the Fields(2) element is hovered over.
