Add dynamic image attachments to a map series in ArcGIS Pro

Summary

Multiple dynamic images, such as photos from field observations, can be included in a map series to visualize all data on the layout and enhance spatial context. However, each picture element allows only one image selection, therefore only the first image attachment is displayed when a dynamic image is added.

Procedure

Note:
Create a consistent naming convention for the image attachments, as the filter applies uniformly across pages in the map series. For example, if the images on the first page are named 'Image 2' and 'Image 3', use the same names for the images on subsequent pages.

1. In ArcGIS Pro, create a layout and insert a map frame. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Insert a layout and ArcGIS Pro: Insert a map frame for instructions.
2. Create a spatial map series. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Steps to create a spatial map series for instructions.
3. Add a dynamic picture element to the layout.
   1. On the Insert tab, in the Graphics and Text group, select Picture.
   2. In the Insert Picture window, select an image to use as a placeholder. Click OK.
   3. Draw a rectangle on the layout to define the size of the image.
   4. Right-click the image and click Properties to open the Element pane.
   5. In the Element pane, under Picture, select Dynamic.
   6. Click the drop-down menu and select <Attachment>.

The first image attachment is displayed on the layout.

4. Add an additional dynamic image to the layout using the Filter option.
   1. Repeat Steps 3(a) through 3(f) to place an additional image on the layout.

Note:
Alternatively, right-click the previous image and click Copy. On the layout, right-click and select Paste to add another image.

2. In the layout view, click the additional image to select it. In the Element pane, under Dynamic, in the Filter text box, type the name of the additional image attachment and press Enter. In this example, the additional image is ‘Image 2’.

5. Repeat Step 4 to add more dynamic images to the layout.

The layout shows the dynamic images added to the map series in ArcGIS Pro.
