Frequently asked question

How does Business Analyst Online calculate data when only a portion of a census block is within a trade area?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

If a census block is not completely encompassed by a trade area (such as simple rings, drive times, or hand drawn polygons), then Business Analyst Online uses the Hybrid method to calculate data for reports.

The Hybrid method is a combination of the Block Apportionment and Cascading Centroid methods. The Block Apportionment method calculates data based off of a percentage of the census block. In contrast, the Cascading Control method uses data for the entire census block.
