Frequently asked question

How are DLLs identified for the ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.2 release when creating lists of permitted software for system scanning?

Last Published: April 15, 2022

Answer

Software installations include many different files and folders to function properly. One of these file types is a dynamic link library (DLL).  These files include information about the version number, author, and published dates.  The DLL version numbers are internal to the software and do not necessarily represent the software release version number.

The internal DLL version number for the ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.2 release is 10.9.1. This is an internal DLL version number only.  This version number ensures compatibility with, and file sharing between, ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.2 and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 and does not alter the ArcGIS Desktop product release version of 10.8.2.  The DLL version number of 10.9.1 should be used for the ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.2 release when creating lists of permitted software for system scanning.
