Geodatabase schema object install not completed (-522)

Error Message

Using a full Oracle client to upgrade an Oracle geodatabase with the syntax ‘sde: oracle11g:TNSNAME’ returns the following error message:

“Cannot upgrade a user schema geodatabase when the master schema geodatabase is at a previous release. The master schema geodatabase must be upgraded first.

ERROR: Geodatabase schema object install not completed (-522)."

Note:
The error is returned in the sde_setup.log file (path: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp).

Cause

This is a known issue.

Solution or Workaround

Change the connection syntax from ‘sde:oracle11g:TNSNAME’ to the Transparent Network Substrate (TNS) name in the Instance text box:

• Type the TNS name in the Instance text box, as shown in the figure below.

Or,

• Modify the sqlnet.ora file on the client machine to connect to the geodatabase with the Easy Connect string, and upgrade the geodatabase.
