PROBLEM
Geocoding service cannot find candidates or a match for an address that uses a place name alias
Description
When geocoding an address that uses a place name alias (for example, “City Hall”) the geocoding service is unable to find candidates or a match for the alias.
Cause
Spelling variations in place name aliases are not tolerated by geocoding services. In order for a geocoding service to substitute an address for an alias that appears in the place name alias table, the alias that is given to the geocoding service must be spelled exactly as it appears in the table.
Solution or Workaround
Check the spelling of the place name alias that you are trying to geocode against the spelling of the alias in the place name alias table. If they are different, correct the record that is in error, and try to geocode the address again.
