PROBLEM

ArcGIS Field Maps is unable to open an offline area of an online web map when the itemID parameter is used in the URL

Last Published: March 18, 2026

Description

After 25.2 release of ArcGIS Field Maps, launching the Field Maps mobile app via a URL containing the itemID parameter no longer opens the offline map when the device is not connected to the internet.

Cause

Prior to version 25.2, when the Field Maps mobile app was launched via a URL that included the item ID of an online web map (itemID parameter), if the device was offline and couldn't access the online web map, Field Maps would automatically open the offline area for the same web map if it was already downloaded on the device.

After the 25.2 release, this behavior has changed and now when itemID parameter is included in the URL, Field Maps only opens the online map and no longer redirects to the offline map area, so if the map cannot be accessed (for example when the device is offline) users receive an error "Unable to open the map".

Solution or Workaround

  1. Remove the itemID from the URL. For example, change: https://fieldmaps.arcgis.app/?itemID=28ff815d92a04855926f1e8d3971830a to: https://fieldmaps.arcgis.app/
  2. Have the desired map open in Field Maps.
  3. By removing the itemID, the link opens the current map in Field Maps.
Note:
Other URL parameters can be used as long as they don't require the "itemID" parameter.
