Frequently asked question

Why is the Private Number of Household Persons sometimes greater than the Total Population or Total Household Population at the Forward Sortation Area (FSA) postal code geography level?

Last Published: October 27, 2020

Answer

In the 2020 data release, Environics Analytics, the company that provides Esri advanced Canadian demographic data, implemented a change in the methodology used to apportion the Dissemination Area population counts at the Federal Sortation Area (FSA) geography level. As a result, the Private Number of Household Persons is occasionally slightly greater than the Total Population or Total Household Population.

Environics Analytics has stated that this issue should have minimal impact on analysis results based on these variables. Please contact Environics Analytics for further details regarding this issue.
