Frequently asked question

Why did some 2016 Census variables at the Federal Electoral District (FED) level change between the 2019 and 2020 data releases?

Last Published: October 27, 2020

Answer

In the 2020 data release, Environics Analytics, the company that provides Esri advanced Canadian deomgraphic data, implemented a change in the methodology used to apportion the 2016 CensusPlus data at the Federal Electoral Districts (FED) geography level. This resulted in slight changes to some apportioned 2016 Census data for FEDs between the 2019 and 2020 data releases.

Environics Analytics has stated that this issue should have minimal impact on analysis results based on these variables. Please contact Environics Analytics for further details regarding this issue.
