Frequently asked question

Why can't projected data be seen in a projected view in ArcView?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

Projection formulas are mathematical expressions that convert data from a geographical location (latitude and longitude) on a sphere or a spheroid to a representative location on a flat surface. Projecting data applies one of these formulas to three-dimensional data and forces the data to fit on a two-dimensional, flat surface. Projecting a view with projected data applies these three-dimensional formulas to two-dimensional data. The mathematical results are unfeasible and therefore ArcView will not draw the data in the projected view.
