Frequently asked question

Why are BLOB and 'Variable Length' fields ignored by ArcView when using SQL?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

ArcView doesn't support SQL BLOBs, or variable length fields, as a data type when connecting to a table through SQL.

When using SQL Connect, the BLOB field will appear in the SQL Connect box as an existing field, but will not carry over, even if selected in the query.
Note:
The width limit for non-variable length fields is 255 characters; therefore, non-variable length fields will be truncated at 255 characters.
