Frequently asked question

Where are the extension state settings stored for ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcScene and ArcGlobe?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

The extension states are stored in the following registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\ArcCatalog\Extensions
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\ArcMap\Extensions
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\ArcScene\Extensions
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\ArcGlobe\Extensions

The name corresponds to the CLSID found in the ESRI MX Extensions, ESRI GX Extensions, ESRI SX Extensions and ESRI GMx Extensions.

The data value corresponds to the enumeration esriExtensionState. The
esriExtensionState Constants are as follows:

esriESEnabled - 1 - Enabled for use.
esriESDisabled - 2 - Disabled by the user.
esriESUnavailable - 4 - Unavailable - not licensed.

Warning:
It is not recommended that you modify these settings in the system registry directly. If you wish to change the Extension State use the application GUI or ArcObjects. ESRI cannot guarantee results from incorrect modifications.
