Understanding Preview

The meaning and purpose of Preview

Preview is a limited-use program designed to offer ArcGIS users the opportunity to use new products, capabilities and features prior to general availability. The purpose of Preview is to enable the use of the product or feature for a specific duration, until an expected future transition to general availability (GA).

Characteristics of products and features in Preview

Products and features in Preview offer early access to functionality before general availability, allowing customers to explore capabilities and enabling Esri to elicit feedback (for example, usage reporting or end-user feedback). Preview comes with specific conditions around access, licensing, support, and security.

  • Access: By default, Preview features are accessible in the same way as GA. A user with administrative privileges can opt-out of Preview features, making all Preview features unavailable to their organizational members. Mobile and desktop applications will respect the organization level settings for Preview.
  • Release: Preview is a product development stage between beta and general availability. While a product may be in general availability, some of its individual features can be released in Preview and later mature into full GA.
  • Licensing: Esri may provide limited access to versions of functionality prior to making such functionality generally available. Previews are a limited-use program as licensed under the Esri Master Agreement for Products and Services.
  • Documentation: Products and features in Preview are documented within the applicable product documentation.
  • Time-limited: Products and features in Preview are available for a limited time, designed to encourage user adoption and facilitate valuable feedback before their transition to GA.
  • Limited-use: Products and features in Preview may be used in a production environment. However as a limited-use program, such features are pre-release and subject to the applicable disclaimers contained in the Esri Master Agreement for Products and Services. During the Preview phase, Esri reserves the right to discontinue access or support at any time without prior notice. In the event of such a discontinuation, customers will not lose the content generated through use of the Preview product or feature. There is no guarantee that any product or feature will transition to GA.
  • Pricing: Generally, there will be no additional fees while products or features are in Preview. Some services or features may have fees associated with them during Preview. If this is the case, it will be communicated through the relevant quotation or product documentation and announcements. These same Preview products or features may have fees associated with them when they become generally available.
  • Technical support: Current US customers on maintenance or under an active subscription are entitled to Esri Technical Support for features in Preview for all qualified products. Customers outside the US should contact their local distributor for information about technical support policies.
  • Security and privacy: Products and features in Preview come with limited security and privacy validation. Security and privacy validation will be complete at the time the relevant product or feature is released into GA.
