Frequently asked question
ArcGIS Server functions as a server software that can be used as a stand-alone system or part of an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment to make GIS services available to the organization. Occasionally, ArcGIS Server fails to run or is inaccessible without returning any error on the machine hosting it. This article provides the information and best practices to troubleshoot ArcGIS Server 10.9 and 10.9.1 when it is inaccessible on a machine.
Ensure the ArcGIS Server machine or virtual machine is running.
Open a web browser on the ArcGIS Server machine and navigate to one of the following URLs to verify the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory availability.
https://<MachineName>.<Domain>.com/<WebAdaptorName>/admin
https://<MachineName>.<Domain>.com:6443/arcgis/admin
Ensure the ArcGIS Server service and processes are running on the machine. Follow the steps below to check via Task Manager.
Check if the proper user credentials are used to log in to ArcGIS Server or log in to ArcGIS Server using an administrator account. If both methods fail and ArcGIS Server is part of an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment, refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Recovering the portal when no administrator accounts are available for steps to create a new Portal for ArcGIS administrator account.
Note: When an ArcGIS Server site is federated with Portal for ArcGIS, the portal's security store controls all access to the site.
Repair ArcGIS Server from the Settings page or using the Control Panel in Microsoft Windows. Refer to Microsoft: Repair apps and programs in Windows for instructions.
Restore ArcGIS Server through a machine snapshot or an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment backup. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Restoring a backup of your site for steps to restore ArcGIS Server using the Restore utility. If ArcGIS Server is a component of an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment and is backed up using the webgisdr utility, refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Restore your organization to restore ArcGIS Server using a webgisdr backup file.
