This Document helps answer frequently asked questions about the updating process from ArcIMS 4.0 and 4.0.1 to ArcIMS 9.1.

1. Where can information be found on what’s new in ArcIMS 9.1?

2. Are there detailed instructions for uninstalling previous versions of ArcIMS?

Refer to the 'Uninstalling ArcIMS' section in the 'ArcIMS Installation Guide', which is commonly found in 'C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcIMS\Documentation\Install.htm'.

3. Are there detailed instructions for installing ArcIMS 9.1?

Refer to the 'Upgrading to ArcIMS 9.1' section in the 'ArcIMS Installation Guide', which is commonly found in 'C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcIMS\Documentation\Install.htm'.

4. Are there pre-install articles available for ArcIMS 9.1?

5. Is there a procedure to backup all of the configuration files used by the current ArcIMS Services?

Yes; use the following procedure.
A. Record the data locations used by the current ArcIMS Services. (for example, :\\, or \\\\, SDE Settings, etc.)

B. Copy any AXL, MXD, and PMF files being used to a safe location.

C. Copy the SEZ files (ArcIMSSite.sez and ArcIMSFolders.sez) most commonly located in C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcIMS\AppServer\ to a safe location.

D. Record all the Service Properties for each of the Services listed in the ArcIMS Administrator.

Note:
The settings and map service names are case sensitive.

6. Can ArcIMS Web site files be backed up?

Yes; it's always safe to back up files that have been customized, but not renamed, for example, in the C:\ArcIMS\Website directory.

7. Can the 9.0 ECP registration code be used for licensing newer versions of ESRI software?

8. Are ArcIMS applications forward compatible with major new releases of ArcSDE?

9. Is there a list of known issues with ArcIMS 9.x?

Yes. Please refer to the ArcIMS 9.0 Known Issues - Quick Reference Guide. In particular, be sure to note the following two articles:

1. Raster layers that were in ArcIMS 4.0.1 map services are not in ArcIMS 9.0 map services change the AXL files used in ArcIMS 4.x that referenced Raster data.

2. Geocoding in pre-9.0 HTML Viewer does not work with ArcIMS 9.0. Use the workaround described in the article.
