Frequently asked question

Is it possible to obtain the IP addresses of users who view publicly shared items in ArcGIS Online?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

In some cases, the owners and administrators may share their items publicly in ArcGIS Online. When items are set to public, it is useful to obtain the IP addresses of clients or users who view or access the items.

It is not possible to obtain the IP addresses of users who view or access the items shared publicly on ArcGIS Online through the ArcGIS Online user interface. Usage details of the items can be found in the documentation, ArcGIS Online: Monitor usage. Depending on the item type, the usage details only include the number of views, requests, or downloads.  Questions about access to accidentally shared sensitive content should be directed to the Esri Security Team .

However, the history logs of changes made in the items of an organization account are available on ArcGIS Online. This activity log can be downloaded to track the IP addresses of users who made changes to the services hosted. The following are steps to download the activity log.

  1. In ArcGIS Online, navigate to Organization > Overview > Download activity log.User-added image
