Frequently asked question

Is it possible to log in to ArcGIS for Power BI through multifactor authentication (MFA) on a mobile device?

Last Published: April 25, 2024

Answer

No, it is not possible to log in to ArcGIS for Power BI through multifactor authentication (MFA) such as Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) on mobile devices, as the following error message is returned:

Error:
Signing into ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise are not currently supported in mobile environments.
The error message, Signing into ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise are currently not supported in mobile environments. is returned.

This is a known limitation. Logging in to ArcGIS for Power BI via MFA is currently not supported on mobile devices. Therefore, contents shared from ArcGIS for BI cannot be opened on a mobile device using MFA and can only be accessed on the desktop machine. Refer to ArcGIS for Microsoft 365: Sign in to an ArcGIS account for more information. As an alternative workaround, host the layers in ArcGIS Online and set the sharing settings to 'Everyone (public)' on the item details page for the content to be publicly accessible. Hence, users are able to access the ArcGIS for Power BI content through the default ArcGIS Online login without MFA.
