Answer

Yes, it is possible to import an app created using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) from one machine to another if the Import function fails. The process may fail due to several possible causes such as different versions of Web AppBuilder installed in the original and new machine, as stated in ArcGIS Help: Import an existing app. However, in the event that the Import function still fails despite adhering to the requirements of importing an app, do the following as a workaround:

  1. Download the app from the original machine.
  2. Copy the downloaded app ZIP file to the new machine.
  3. Launch Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) on the new machine.
  4. Create a new app and save it.
  5. Close Web AppBuilder.
  6. Launch Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where the new app was created in Step 3 is stored.

    For example:
C:\ArcGIS-Web-AppBuilder-2.x\WebAppBuilderForArcGIS\server\apps\<app_name>
  1. Delete only the contents of the folder for the newly created app.
  2. Copy the contents of the ZIP file (from Step 2) into the folder of the newly created app.
  3. Launch Web AppBuilder to access the app.
