Frequently asked question

Is it possible to have different editing capabilities for a hosted feature service if the service is shared by two different groups?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

It is not possible to have different editing capabilities for a hosted feature service. Ownership-based access control with editor tracking is only extended to the owner of the feature service and not to groups.

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

Create a non-editable hosted feature layer view
Create a non-editable hosted feature layer view from the existing hosted feature service. For more information, refer to the following help document, Create hosted feature layer views.

Create and share a single web map
Create a single web map referring to the hosted feature service. Use Collector for ArcGIS to edit, and Explorer for ArcGIS to view the service. Share the web map with a group that has administrators as members. Use the same web map in Explorer for ArcGIS for viewing. Since Explorer for ArcGIS does not allow the service to be edited, the web map can be viewed, and the survey form accessed, while working with Collector for ArcGIS. The administrators are able to edit the feature service in Collector for ArcGIS.
