Frequently asked question

Is it possible to add data directly from SharePoint to ArcGIS Pro?

Last Published: November 9, 2021

Answer

No, it is not possible to add data directly from SharePoint to ArcGIS Pro. The ArcGIS for SharePoint application is required to work directly with an organization's SharePoint data.

As a workaround, the workflow below describes how to connect to the data by copying it to a local folder outside SharePoint.

  1. Move or copy the files in SharePoint to a local folder. Refer to Microsoft Support: Move or copy files in SharePoint for more information.
  2. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  3. On the ArcGIS Pro ribbon, click Map > Add Data to open the Add Data pane.
Click Add Data in the Layer group from the Map tab in the ArcGIS Pro ribbon
  1. Navigate to the location of the data file from the local folder and select it. In this example the HK2016 Census.csv file is selected.
  2. Click OK.
Click OK after selecting the data file in the Add Data dialog box

The image below demonstrates the data file (HK2016 Census.csv) is added to the project.
