Frequently asked question
No, the Measurement tool does not support snapping vertices, edges, or endpoints of existing features in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise Map Viewer. However, the ‘Geometry guides’ option can be activated using the Ctrl key during measurement as it guides the alignment of the feature being created but does not snap the measurement to existing features on the map.
Alternatively, apply one of the methods provided below to enhance measurement capabilities and enable precise snapping.
Open the web map and use the snapping options by enabling the Enable snapping option in the Editor or Sketch panes when editing or sketching features in Map Viewer. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Add features or ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Create a sketch layer for instructions. To use a grid as a snapping guide in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer, refer to ArcGIS Blog: What’s new in Map Viewer (November 2024) or ArcGIS Blog: The grid: A snappy new editing tool in ArcGIS Online for more information.
Create a web scene in Scene Viewer and use the Measure distance or Measure area tools in Scene tools to measure distances and areas with snapping for 3D data. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Measure distance in a scene or ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Measure area in a scene for instructions.
Note: The Measurement widget is available and supported in ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 and later.
Create a web experience and use the measurement tools in the Measurement widget to measure distances and areas with snapping in ArcGIS Experience Builder. Refer to ArcGIS Experience Builder: Measurement widget for more information.
