Frequently asked question

Can the search tool size be changed to increase visibility in ArcGIS StoryMaps?

Last Published: July 22, 2024

Answer

No, the size of the search tool cannot be changed in a story map in ArcGIS StoryMaps. This is by design. The search tool can only be toggled on and off to control its visibility on the map. The image below shows the search tool blending into the basemap in ArcGIS StoryMaps, potentially reducing its visibility to readers.

As an alternative, style the search tool with a darker colored theme for visibility, which prevents it from blending into the basemap. The Obsidian and Tidal themes are two dark-colored theme options from the six standard themes available. To change to a darker theme in ArcGIS Story Maps, refer to the instructions inĀ ArcGIS StoryMaps: Change the theme. In Step 2, select the preferred dark theme for the story map.

The image below demonstrates the story map set to Obsidian in ArcGIS StoryMaps.
