Frequently asked question

Can ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 to 10.3 clients borrow licenses and work in Remote Desktop environments?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 to 10.3 clients are able to borrow licenses and operate in a Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) environment using an ArcGIS version 10.1 License Manager.

Note:
The License Manager version used must be of an equal or higher version than the ArcGIS Desktop client version being run.

Some legacy products are affected by this change:

Solaris ARC/INFO Workstation (all versions): 10.0 licenses are required to operate. For each seat of Solaris ARC/INFO Workstation to be maintained, a 10.0 Concurrent Use license must remain on the ArcGIS 10.1-10.3 License Manager. Alternatively, a separate License Manager with 10.0 licenses can be set up for operating Solaris ARC/INFO Workstation.

Windows ARC/INFO Workstation (versions 9.2 and older only): For each seat of Windows ARC/INFO Workstation to be maintained, a 10.0 Concurrent Use license must remain on the ArcGIS 10.1-10.3 License Manager. Alternatively, a separate License Manager with 10.0 licenses can be set up for operating Windows ARC/INFO Workstation.

Note:
ArcGIS for Desktop 9.2 SP6 and later is not affected by this change.
