Last Published: April 25, 2020

Solution or Workaround

The following error message displays when extracting half a tile of data from the layer ROADS, where the ROADS layer coverages have only been built for lines, never polygons and the TLAKES is a built polygon coverage overlapping half a tile:

Arc: librarian quad
Librarian: setlayer roads
Librarian: setcover tlakes
Librarian: Usage: EXTRACT {location}
{CLIP}
Librarian: extract dissolve # clip

Fatal error (ANCADD) BAD POINTER
Bailing out of LINEADD

or at 7.0.3

Fatal error (GETFIL) BAD POINTER
Bailing out of LINEADD

Answer:

The DISSOLVE option only works for polygon layers.

Use the EXTRACT option TOPOLOGICAL instead of DISSOLVE since the road layer does not have polygons.
