Frequently asked question

Esri's supportability policy for Windows 2012 Server Extended Support

Last Published: July 18, 2023

Answer

Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 are set to retire on October 10th, 2023 as they exit what Microsoft calls 'Extended Support'. Some users may choose to purchase Microsoft's "Extended Security Updates" (ESUs) for these operating systems. This article describes the supportability for ArcGIS products running on Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 was the last version of ArcGIS Enterprise to officially support Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. Esri fully supports operating systems only during their regular product lifecycle. Once an operating system goes out of support from its original vendor, Esri can no longer provide the same level of support. In the case of "Extended Security Updates", Esri does not consider this to be part of the regular product lifecycle. Although Microsoft's "Extended Security Updates" program provides security updates for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 under certain conditions, Esri cannot provide full support after the October 10, 2023 end date.

Esri Technical Support will continue to handle support cases for ArcGIS products on these versions of Windows Server, but will advise users to upgrade to a fully supported operating system. If an operating system-specific defect is identified, Esri will not be able to address such a defect with a patch and must advise customers to upgrade to a fully supported operating system that does not exhibit the problem.
