Error Message

When attempting to make edits in ArcGIS apps (for example, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Field Maps, or Portal for ArcGIS) using an ArcGIS Enterprise account, the following error message is returned:

Error: You cannot edit as you have not been assigned required user type extensions: [Advanced Editing]

Cause

The user has not been assigned the ArcGIS Advanced Editing user type extension.

Note:
After the ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 release, the ArcGIS Utility Network, ArcGIS Trace Network, and ArcGIS Parcel Fabric user type extensions are now consolidated into the ArcGIS Advanced Editing user type extension. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: ArcGIS Advanced Editing for more information.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Verify user type and privileges. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: User types to ensure the user has a compatible user type that supports advanced editing.
Note: 
The ArcGIS Advanced Editing user type extension is included in the Professional and Professional Plus user types.
Note:
Only administrators or users with administrative privileges can perform the changes below.
  1. For users without the advanced editing privilege, change the user type to Contributor, Mobile Worker, Creator, Professional, or Professional Plus. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Change user types for instructions.
  2. Assign the ArcGIS Advanced Editing user type extension license to the user. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Configure user type extensions for instructions.
