Using IIS and Tomcat 5.0.28 ERROR: Webserver-Servlet Engine Configuration completed with errors

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

During the post-installation of ArcIMS 9.1, on the Web Server Servlet Engine Configuration dialog, when the 'IIS with Tomcat 4.1.xx/5.0.28' option is selected; the following message appears:

"Web server-Servlet Engine Configuration completed with errors. Do you want to view the log file: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArciMS\Tools\ArcIMSCfgTool_InstallLog.log"

If the log is viewed, the following errors are recorded:

"1 NONFATAL ERRORS

CfgWebServer workers2.properties
status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR Required file does not exist. Could not configure web server."

Cause

ArcIMS 9.1 was initially released and tested with IIS/Tomcat 5.0.28 and used two files: isapi_redirector2.dll and workers2.properties. Due to known issues with ArcIMS and that configuration, it was necessary to move to a different configuration with the isapi_redirect.dll.

The configuration with isapi_redirect.dll does not work with the ArcIMS Post Installation, and the servlet connector needs to be manually configured using the steps in the ArcIMS Installation Guide (install.htm) on the Windows CD.

Solution or Workaround

Please see the article "Cannot create some services in ArcIMS Administrator if using Tomcat 5.0.28" in the Related Information section below for details on how to reconfigure IIS/Tomcat 5.0.28 with the isapi_redirect.dll.
