ERROR

Unable to open GSSCGI.SYS

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Solution or Workaround

Summary

When starting ARCPLOT, this error message occurs:

Unable to open the following file, so it is being ignored:
C:\ARCEXE\CGI\GSSCGI.SYS
Unable to open the following file, so it is being ignored
C:\ARCEXE\CGIHRVGA.SYS
The GSS*CGI was not found in CGI.CFG -- aborting

Cause

This is most likely caused by an early version of PKZIP in the path.

Solution

Type PKZIP |MORE to check the version number. It should be at least 2.04g. If an older version is present, delete it or place ARCEXE\CMD earlier in the path.

You might also try to load HRVGA.SYS or IBMVGA12.SYS statically from the config.sys and autoexec.bat. This involves adding the following:

To the CONFIG.SYS file:

DEVICEHIGH=C:\ARCEXE\CGI\ibmvga12.sys
DEVICEHIGH=C:\ARCEXE\CGI\GSSCGI.SYS

To the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

SET DISPLAY=ibmvga12.sys
in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
