Error Message

Attempting to execute the print service (default or custom) in Map Viewer, or any other web application in ArcGIS Enterprise, fails. The following error is returned in ArcGIS Server Manager logs:

Unable to complete operation. Error executing tool. Export Web Map : ConvertWebMapToArcGISProject() takes from 1 to 4 positional arguments but 5 were.

This error occurs when using the default PrintingTools service or a custom printing service. In some cases, the error may persist even after restarting the PrintingTools service or ArcGIS Server.

Cause

The issue is caused by an incompatibility between ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Server versions. When using ArcGIS Pro 3.x with ArcGIS Server version 10.9.1 or 11.1, this error may occur when utilizing the print service (default or custom) in ArcGIS Enterprise. 

Solution or Workaround

To resolve the error, install a version of ArcGIS Pro which is compatible with the installed version of ArcGIS Server.

1. Uninstall ArcGIS Pro 3.2 or 3.3 from the machine where ArcGIS Server is installed.
2. Install ArcGIS Pro 2.9 for ArcGIS Server 10.9.1, or 3.1 if using ArcGIS Server 11.1. For more information refer to ArcGIS Pro: Compatibility.

Note:
Older versions of ArcGIS Pro can be downloaded from My Esri by navigating to the Downloads tab and selecting All Products and Versions. On the Products page, navigate to the All Versions tab.

3. Restart the machine after installation to ensure that all services and libraries are properly updated.
4. Verify the functionality of the default PrintingTools service in Map Viewer and/or other applications.
