Error Message

When attempting to save changes in ArcGIS Notebook Server, the Save button is disabled, and the following error message is returned:

This notebook is read-only
The error message being displayed in ArcGIS Notebook Server.

Cause

  • Incorrect installation of Docker on the machine causing it to be corrupted.
  • There is insufficient disk space on the drive hosting ArcGIS Notebook Server.
Note:
Esri products have failsafe configured and the products switch over to read-only mode once the threshold limit for the disk space is crossed.
  • An automatic read-only lock is applied in the shared network drive.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the options below to resolve the issue.

Reinstall Docker

Reinstall Docker on the ArcGIS Notebook Server machine. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: ArcGIS Notebook Server 11.1 system requirements and ArcGIS Notebook Server: Install container engine for ArcGIS Notebook Server (Linux containers) for instructions.

Increase the disk space of the machine

Increase the disk space to at least 50 GB. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Hardware requirements for more information.

Copy or move the data from a shared network drive to a local drive

Copy or move the notebook from a shared network drive to a local drive and make the necessary edits before saving the changes.
