Error Message

Attempts to add a print service in Portal for ArcGIS fail with the following error message returned:

Error:
The print service URL you have entered is configured for Asynchronous execution. A print service configured for Synchronous execution is required.

Cause

The print service is configured or published as an asynchronous service.

Solution or Workaround

Set the Execution Mode parameter of the print service to Synchronous in ArcGIS Server Manager

1. Open ArcGIS Server Manager and log in with an administrator account.
2. Click Services > Manage Services. Browse to and click the custom print service.
3. Click Parameters and select Synchronous under the Execution Mode parameter.
4. Click Save.

Publish a print service from ArcGIS Pro with the Execution Mode set to Synchronous

To prevent this error from returning when creating a new print service in ArcGIS Pro, set the Execution Mode to Synchronous before publishing the print service to ArcGIS Enterprise. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Share a printing web tool to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal for instructions.
