Error Message

In Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Online, attempts to change the ownership of some layers fail, and return the following error message:

Some items may not have been reassigned because they have dependencies on other items. Do not select dependent items to be transferred, as they are transferred automatically when the primary item is reassigned.

Cause

The layers are dependent on other layers, such as view layers and layers with relationship classes. Assigning a dependent layer to a new owner is not possible due to data dependency on the primary hosted feature layer.

Solution or Workaround

Change the ownership of the primary hosted feature layer.

1. Log in to Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Online account.
2. Click Content > My Content.
3. Search for the source data layer and check the check box to select the item.
4. Click Change Owner.

5. In the Change owner window, search for and select the new owner.

5. Click Save.
