In the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, attempting to save a coded value domain or list of values fails and the following error is returned:

Cause

• ArcGIS Enterprise portal cannot successfully synchronize and validate coded value domain schema updates across all service components during the save operation. Refer to BUG-000144906 for more information.
• The portal's proxy is misconfigured in the ArcGIS Portal Administrator Directory.
• There is a joined hosted feature layer view referencing the hosted feature layer, causing a schema lock on the layer.
• The feature layer is not hosted on ArcGIS Enterprise.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, the following solutions are applicable:

Install the patch for ArcGIS Server

Download the patch from ArcGIS Server Security 2022 Update 2 Patch.

Upgrade the Portal for ArcGIS version

Update the Portal for ArcGIS version to 11.0 and above. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Upgrade Portal for ArcGIS for instructions.

Remove the portal’s proxy host in the ArcGIS Portal Administrator Directory

Remove the portal’s proxy host on the Settings tab in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Restrict the portal's proxy capability for instructions.

Remove the hosted feature layer view in ArcGIS Enterprise

Delete the hosted feature layer view or update the service definition at the hosted feature layer view REST endpoint. Refer to Problem: Unable to edit the domain values of a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online for instructions.

Host the feature layer in ArcGIS Enterprise

Host the feature layer in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal by publishing it as a hosted feature layer. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux: Publish hosted feature layers for instructions.

Update the domain using the ArcGIS REST Administrator Directory

Edit the domain list from the REST endpoint of the field. Refer to How To: Add coded value domains to a hosted feature service from a REST endpoint for instructions.
